Living with the wind in Medicine Bow Wyoming

Move to Medicine Bow, itself, was not very much. Or moved to another village. We had lived in two small towns, so we were accustomed to the way of life. Most people think of small towns like cities with a population of about 10,000. Here we are talking about rural towns with a population of less than 500.

What we needed to get used to it, when we come here - addition of altitude (feet 6700) - was the constant wind. And the definitions of a wind and a breeze. One local us, "Welcome to the Wyoming wind Festival." "From January 1 to December 31." Days calm, but are generally few and now. We are lucky to have more than two consecutive days of calm. Most of the quiet time is mid to end of summer and early Fall. Thanks to the wind, people living in Wyoming know what looks its flag.It is rare to see flags hanging limply against their polos.Los trees grow inclined towards the East, unless bound by robust cables.

Most of the places where we had lived before, the winds were getting fairly strong, if them approaching 20 to 30 miles per hour. In the Arch of the medicine, which is a normal breeze. It is common that 30 to 40 mph winds. The Department of transportation issued a "strong wind warning" Interstate 80 when winds start wind 50–60 mph.También not advise trailers"light", and much happens. The stretch of 80 between Walcott Junction (20 miles east of Rawlins) Happy Jack Summit (10 miles east of Laramie) is known for the number of accidents and voided trailers during the strong wind and weather snowy, largely a result of travellers who are not prepared for the ferocity of the winds on that stretch of road.

The prevailing wind from West to East. Rawlins, who would get terrible gas mileage displacement will work. Then, go home, I wanted that it could put a candle in the car could save more gas costs, but often took up to 50% less fuel to come home that did it to go to work.Displacement to Laramie or Cheyenne was everything it contrario.Tendríamos great gas mileage go there, but could be fighting the wind home coming. When the wind changes address, means more than changes in gas mileage. If the wind is coming from any direction from the West, we know that we are in for a storm.

We were accustomed to see snow, having lived in the northern part of the West of United States. Here we learned about horizontal snow.Little snow lands on the ground, and there many derivas.Algunos say snow blowing in Nebraska. It was strange for us to see snow blowing parallel to the ground. This is usually a dry snow. Wet snow come when the wind is calm or light.

Driving large in Wyoming is difficult. When we lived in Oregon and Washington, watching semi trucks with triple trailers was common, even in the "wind" Columbia River Gorge. here in Wyoming, triple trailers are illegal. While traveling in the Interstate, it is not uncommon to see sobre semi-finals diverting because they are being pushed by the wind. The same with buses-motorhome chassis or great fifth-wheel travel trailers and trailers. Elsewhere, might think that the driver was asleep or State of drunkenness. Here in Wyoming are just being pushed sobre wind.

When combined, wind and snow cause additional problems.Snow blowing through sections at low road, which is known locally as "Earth blizzards".This condition occurs when the wind blows dust or frozen snow that has been on the ground for a day or más.Visibilidad could be good that surrounds him, but cannot see the road. These ground blizzards can also cause the road to ice for a few feet where the ice has been created under the snow blown and dry over the next few feet where the road is protected blown snow.At other times, there will be enough snow blowing to cause conditions "white out", very similar to dense fog in coastal areas.

Despite the dangers to wind and snow are merged, driving in winter is safe most of the tiempo.Uno learns to be alert when driving in the wind and the roads are clear on almost all invierno.Mientras displacements of Medicine Bow to Cheyenne days (i.e., a trip that averaged one hour and 45 minutes of ida), lost an average of only 2 days per year due to road closures or in hazardous conditions.

Residents who move here first say, "I don't think I ever may become accustomed to the wind".but soon after, are boasting of it and have been adjusted to live with fact ella.De, nor do most gave account have made an adjustment is only adapt and largely ignores the viento.Quizás one of the reasons why Wyoming makes it resistant people.
